Second Half Surge Propels Falcons to Record 20 Wins

Folsom, CA - Folsom Lake College Women's Basketball has only had five complete seasons as a program. As of February 7, 2023, the Falcons set a program record, winning their 20th game of the season beating Modesto Junior College 68-49. Through the play of the committed players and the vision and development of Coach Ali Mollet and her staff, the Falcons have risen to great heights in achieving so much success in such little time.

The first quarter had a little bit of everything, FLC starting the game on an impressive 10-1 run, then Modesto answering the call after a timeout to cut the deficit to just 1-point after the first quarter. The second quarter was a pretty even-keeled 10 minutes as Modesto hit a stunning running 3-pointer at the buzzer to take a 34-33 lead over the Falcons heading into halftime.

Adjustments in basketball are the key to winning games, and the Falcons made the necessary changes after halftime. Defense ramped up, combining stingy man-to-man with a newfound 2-3 zone in the 3rd quarter holding the Pirates to only six points. Meanwhile, the Falcons found their groove, jamming the ball inside, allotting 21 total points; taking a 52-40 lead into the fourth.

Solid overall play from all the Falcons resulted in a demanding 14-9 fourth quarter, leaving the Falcons victorious by 19 as the final buzzer sounded.

A fantastic overall game from freshman Alysa Lopez helped lead the charge with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists. The three-headed post monster of Megan Williams, Corrie Harrison, and Eva Graf contributed 36 total points for the Falcons on 17-29 shooting and 15 rebounds (Williams 12 and 5, Harrison 10 and 6, Graf 12 and 4). Macie Purbaugh facilitated nicely with 7 assists to round out a successful evening for the 20-win Falcons.

Next up FLC 20-5 (10-3) face the Beavers of American River College 8-16 (6-8) at home on Friday night at 5:30pm in the penultimate week of regular season play.

Go Falcons!
