#15 Falcons Upset #7 Delta in Packed-House Home Game

Folsom Lake College came into this game in sole third place in the super-competitive Big 8 Conference. Santa Rosa and Delta had separated themselves by a couple of games, and were looking to continue momentum into the last couple games of the season. The Falcons had other plans. Taking into consideration the last game they had with Delta, FLC took this game personally. After a grueling 40 minutes of play, the Falcons took victory 58-56.

From the get go, this game was a battle. With a packed house of Folsom Youth Basketball players and supporting fans, the gym had one of the best atmospheres it has had since the start of the program. A loud and rowdy crowd helped fuel the Falcons to a great start taking a 16-11 first quarter lead, and leading into halftime they led 28-21. A defensive showing on both fronts led to a back and forth first half. Corrie Harrison dominated the first half on the boards, grabbing 11 total.

Delta made its run in the third quarter, cutting the Falcon's lead to just two points. The fourth quarter had its ebbs and flows for both FLC and Delta. But after an exciting last couple of minutes, the Falcons forced not one, but two turnovers late, resulting in opportunities to tie and ultimately win the game. With 1.7 seconds left, coach Ali Mollet drew up a sideline out of bounds play that led to Macie Purbaugh throwing an absolute perfect pass to Corrie Harrison over the top of the defense to a layup to win the game at the buzzer!

The hero of the night, Corrie Harrison, ended with a game-high 14 points and 16 rebounds. Macie Purbaugh had 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. The oh-so-consistent defensive stopper Emily Ko finished the day with 9 points (two big 3-pointers in the 4th quarter) and 5 assists. But with an overall team effort, the Falcons accomplished the extraordinary, beating Delta for the first time in program history.

Folsom Lake College 17-5 (7-3) face the Diablo Valley College Vikings 7-11 (3-5) on Friday in Pleasant Hill at 5:30pm.

 Go Falcons!
