Falcons make it two straight with win over Lassen in home opener

The FLC women's basketball team notched their second win of the young season on Thursday night when they defeated Lassen College, 66-47, in the 2022-23 home opener at Falcon Gym.  The Falcons jumped out to an early lead and never trailed in the contest.  With a 34-17 halftime lead, the Falcons relaxed just a bit too much in the third quarter, allowing the visiting Cougars to close the gap to seven points while outscoring the Falcons 18-13.  But with the Cougars started getting into foul trouble, the falcons poured it on and pulled away for the comfortable win.

Sophomore forward Megan Williams and freshman forward Alysa Lopez led the Falcons in scoring with 11 points each.  Lopez added 6 assists and 3 steals while Williams grabbed 6 rebounds and had 4 blocks.  Sophomore guard Daily Applegarth had a breakout game with 9 points, 7 steals, and 4 rebounds, while freshman forward Ashleigh Briggs made good use of her minutes with a team-high 8 rebounds.

The Falcons will have a week to prepare for their next opponent, traditional powerhouse College of San Mateo, which will be on Friday at the Monterey Peninsula Crossover Tournament.
