Falcons close season with satisfying win

Playing their final game of the season on Friday night, the Falcons turned a 14-point deficit into a 12-point lead as they defeated Santa Rosa 66-54 in front of a Falcon home crowd.  After trailing 37-25 at halftime, the Falcons turned on the defensive intensity and shut down the Bear Cubs, outscoring the visitors 41-17 over the final 20 minutes.  Freshman Shay Boley led the Falcons in scoring with 15, while sophomore Alma Perez – playing her final game in a Falcon uniform – netted 14 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.  Four sophomores – Abby Malekos, Nicole Ayala, Megan Macheel, and Perez – were part of the inaugural team in 2017-18 that was 5-20 overall and 2-14 in Big 8 play.  Those four have been the foundation of a team that finished 2019 with an overall record of 11-15 and finished 6-10 in Big 8 play.
