Wolverines' defense proves too much for Falcons

Playing without their leading scorer, the FLC women's basketball team struggled against Sierra College on Friday night, losing 79-57 in Falcon Gym.  The Wolverines' stifling defense and full-court pressure held the Falcons to just 8 second-quarter points and broke the game open as the Wolverines built a 49-23 lead by halftime.  Without Shay Boley in the lineup, who is nursing a swollen knee, the Falcons were forced into 22 turnovers.  The Falcons calmed down and played better basketball in the second half while outscoring the Wolverines 34-30, but the deficit was too great to overcome.  Sophomore Alma Perez led the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding with 17 and 10, and was the Falcons' only player in double figures in either category.

Tuesday night's game at Santa Rosa (7-9 overall, 3-4 in Big 8) looks on paper to be a close matchup for the Falcons (6-10, 2-5 in Big 8) as they conclude the first half of the Big a schedule.
