New FLC basketball coach Ali Mollet recorded her first victory as a head coach on Thursday when her Falcons toppled Lassen College, 74-59 in the opening round of the Modesto Junior College Tournament. The Falcons outscored the Cougars 20-11 in first quarter, then really took over the game with a dominating 23-7 run in the second quarter. The lead grew to 30 points (63-33) by the end of the third quarter before the reserves took over for Mollet. Sophomore Alma Perez had a 'career game', scoring 28 points on 12 of 22 shooting (55%), including 4 of 8 on 3-pointers, while also grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomores Abby Malekos, Megan Macheel, and Angelina Contreras each chipped in with 8 points, and Malekos also dished out 7 assists.
With the win, the Falcons advance to play Big 8 Conference foe Diablo Valley on Friday afternoon (5:00 pm) in the tournament semi-finals. Pending Friday's outcome, the Falcons will play on Saturday either for third place at 1:00 pm or for the championship at 3:00 pm.
