Hawks sweep doubleheader from Falcons

On Saturday, the Cosumnes River Hawks who took an early 2-0 lead in the opener of their doubleheader with two runs (one earned) in the first inning at CRC.  Falcon pitcher Lilly Alvarez shut out Cosumnes on four hits over the next six innings, but the Falcons could not break through against the Hawks.  Despite outhitting the Hawks again (this time 7 hits to 6), the Falcons took the loss, 2-0.  Freshman right fielder Marissa Valles led the Falcons with three hits.
 
In Saturday's series finale, the Falcons took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and one in the second.  After allowing one run in the third, the Falcons' lead would disappear in the fourth inning when the Hawks put four runs across to go ahead 5-3.  Both teams added a run in the sixth and the game ended with CRC on top, 6-4.  Once again, the Falcons outhit their opponent (8 hits to 6) and played error-free ball (while the Hawks committed five!) but couldn't get enough runs to win.  Sophomores Ariana Riojas and Emma Gaytan both collected two hits for the Falcons in the loss.
