Panthers sweep doubleheader from Falcons

After a stirring comeback win on Friday, the FLC softball team hoped the momentum would carry over into Saturday's doubleheader against Sac City.  The Panthers, however, had other ideas and made life miserable for the Falcons with two shutout victories, 4-0 and 6-0.

In the opener, Falcon starting pitcher Lilly Alvarez allowed just three earned runs, but the Panthers' Yvonne Vega was a little bit better as she limited the Falcons to just four hits - all singles - over seven innings.

In gthe second game, the Panthers again jumped ahead with another two-run first inning, then added another run in the third.  Meanwhile, the Falcon bats had awakened, but they kept running themselves out of scoring chances with three runners caught stealing.  With the Falcons down 3-0 in the top half of the fourth inning, Panther shortstop Hannah Clavelle broke the game open with a two out, three-run home run tro make it 6-0.

The Falcon bats totalled 7 hits for the game, with Ariana Riojas and Maddy Larson both collecting two hits apiece.  Larson's fourth inning double off the left field fence just missed being a home run.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday and Saturday when they play at Cosumnes River College.
