Falcons split doubleheader at Santa Rosa

The Folsom Lake and Santa Rosa softball teams finally met on Tuesday for the first time this season, exactly a month after their originally scheduled doubleheader was rained out.  In the opener at Santa Rosa, the Bear Cubs took advantage of three Falcon errors to score three unearned runs and eventually won the game, 4-3.  Gigi Mendez pitched well enough to win, allowing just one earned run on six hits, while the Falcon offense knocked out 11 hits, including two each for Hannah Harvey and Savannah Avellaneda.

In the second game, the timely hitting of shortstop Jessi Lawhorn (2 hits, 5 RBI) propelled the Falcons to an 8-3 victory.  Lawhorn broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning with her bases-loaded three-run double, then played flawless defense to secure the win.  Falcon pitcher Olivia Aguigam was sharp, throwing a complete game 5-hitter while allowing just one earned run.  Araya Corral had two hits and scored twice, while Katie Thompson chipped in with two hits and an RBI.  The victory was the third for the Falcons in Big 8 play and 9th overall in 2019.
