Shasta spoils Falcons' opener

The Falcons opened their 2019 season with two losses to Shasta College on Wednesday afternoon at Falcon Diamond, falling 11-2 in the opener and 7-1 in the second game.   After allowing seven runs in the first two innings of game one, the Falcons seemed to shake the jitters and played much better softball.  Freshman right fielder Valerie Garcia had two hits and drove in both Falcon runs in the fourth inning.  The Knights tacked on four runs in the final inning to put the game out of reach.  In game 2, the Knights used the same formula for success as they tallied 5 first-inning runs, then limited the Falcons to just four hits over seven innings.  Two of those hits were off the bat of Araya Corral, including a booming triple to right-center in the fourth inning that led to the Falcons' only run.

With the season opener behind them, the Falcons will play a doubleheader at Solano (Fairfield) on Saturday, weather permitting.
