Falcons upset Chabot, advance to regional semi-finals
The number 5-seeded Falcons pulled off a stunning upset in Hayward on Tuesday afternoon when they defeated number 4-seeded Chabot – a team they'd lost to 7-2 back in February – by the narrowest of margins, 5-4. Things did not look good for the Falcons after they lost two of the three doubles matches to start the match down 2-1. The excitement started building, though, after Stephen Morley won at #2 singles and Dan Lee won in three sets at #6 singles. With #1 singles Daniel Alves also claiming victory, the score was tied 4-4 with just one match - #4 singles - still in progress. Falcon sophomore Diego Villamil split the first two sets with Chabot's Noah Moeckelman, 6-7, 7-5, creating a 'winner- take-all' third set. When Villamil won the third set 6-4, it touched off a raucous Falcon celebration. The Falcons advance to the regional semi-finals against #2-seeded DeAnza College next Tuesday, April 17 in Cupertino.
