Tennis: Alves reaches state quarterfinals

FLC freshman Sean Alves made his trip to the state championships in Ojai a memorable one as he rolled through three rounds on Thursday and Friday - including victories over two seeded opponents - before finally losing in the quarterfinals on Saturday to state number-one ranked (and defending state champion) Hiro Koyanagi of Ventura College, 6-4, 6-2.  Alves, seeded north #3, was one of only three NorCal players to advance to the round of 16, and the lone NorCal player to make it to the quarterfinals.  Sean becomes the all-time highest placing FLC tennis player in the state tournament.
