Men's Tennis Defeats Chabot In Season Opener
After being rained out of their scheduled season-opening match last Friday, the Folsom Lake College men's tennis team spent three-plus hours on Tuesday drying their courts with squeegees, brooms, and leaf blowers in preparation for their second attempt at playing a match. The hard work paid off as they defeated Chabot College, 5-4. Playing in temperatures better suited for snow sports, the Falcons won on the strength of their number one singles and doubles, along with some exciting mid-level singles that clinched the win. The Falcons took two of three doubles matches and split the six singles matches.
Sean Alves dominated in both singles and doubles, winning 6-0, 6-1 in singles and 8-0 in doubles. Alves' doubles partner, Praj Ta, also won in singles, 6-4, 6-0. The difference-maker turned out to be the number three singles match, where Shawn Morgan won a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 decision. The victory came late in the evening with the temperature dropping, but FLC head coach Patrick Rutz was not feeling the cold at that point.
