Santa Rosa hangs on to edge Falcons

The Falcon men opened their Big 8 season against long-time rival Santa Rosa on Friday afternoon with a disappointing 2-1 loss to the Bear Cubs.  The Falcons allowed a Bear Cub goal just over a minute into the match, then another at the 12-minute mark to trail 2-0 before they knew what happened.  With their backs against the wall, the Falcons began to find their feet with better passing and decision-making.  A goal by freshman Freddie Allen made it 2-1 just minutes before halftime.  The second half saw improved ball control and tactics by the Falcons, but they never could find the tying goal as Santa Rosa hung on for the 2-1 victory.

The loss drops the Falcons' record to 5-1-3 (0-1 in Big 8) with Tuesday's match at Modesto (5-1-1) looming.
