Falcons topple American River; inch closer to Big 8 title

With a Big 8 title in their sights, the FLC men's soccer team entered the final week knowing that they control their own fate.  The Falcons took care of step one on Tuesday night when they shut out American River College, 2-0, at the Beaver Soccer Stadium.  The Beavers' defensive game plan was to sit back and overload the area in front of the goal.  While that was effective for the first half of play, the Falcons made some halftime adjustments that eventually started to create more chances.  Midway through the second half, freshman Mason Lopez scored off a corner kick from Tanner Boyea to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.   Not long after, sophomore Chase Gray took a pass from Abraham Iniguez and, after some back and forth with the defender, found the net for another Falcon goal and a solid 2-0 lead.  Gray's goal was his 8th in the last six games as he has taken some of the scoring burden off team scoring leader Miguel Medina

The Falcons are now one win away from an outright Big 8 championship, which would be their second in as many years, with Friday's match at Santa Rosa the only obstacle left.  In their previous matchup on October 5, the Falcons prevailed 3-2 after allowing a Bear Cub goal in the first minute of play.
