Falcons stun Comets with two late goals

The FLC men opened a busy Friday slate of home athletic events with a dramatic non-conference 2-0 win over Contra Costa on Friday afternoon.  Neither team managed to score during the first 90 minutes of play, but Falcon sophomore Arthur de Lima found the goal in stoppage time with a diving header off a corner kick as he narrowly beat the Comets' goalie to the ball.  Now with a 1-0 lead and just one minute of stoppage time to play, the Falcons iced the victory when Miguel Medina took a pass from Abraham Iniguez and buried it in the net.  The Falcons had been frustrated all afternoon after controlling possession time by a huge margin, but were repeatedly rejected by the athletic Comets' goalkeeper.  The Comets appeared content to sit back and pack the defensive end and it nearly earned them a tie until de Lima came through with his game-winner.

After a brilliant 7-0 start to the season, the Falcons will now focus their attention on Big 8 Conference play, which begins with a trip to Cosumnes River this Friday (Sept 21) afternoon at 4:00 pm
