Falcon men dominate Modesto, close in on title

The Falcon men hosted Modesto in the Friday afternoon opener of the 'Spirit Week' tripleheader and set the tone early.  In the 10th minute, sophomore Jose Muñoz took a centering pass from Nick Potts and launched a long shot into the net for an early 1-0 lead.  Potts would account for two more first-half Falcon goals as they took a 3-0 halftime lead.  Muñoz added another early in the second half, and freshman Chase Gray finished off the Pirates with a header into the net off a great feed from freshman Arthur Lima for the 5-0 final score.  With the win, the Falcons (12-3-4 overall, 6-1-1 in Big 8) remain in first place, five points ahead of second place Cosumnes River, with two matches remaining.  They will play at American River on Tuesday afternoon and finish at Cosumnes River on Friday afternoon.  A win in either match will clinch the title for the Falcons, their first in men's soccer.  A Big 8 title should also guarantee a home match when the CCCAA playoffs begin on November 18.
