Falcons notch first victory with shutout win over Chabot

The FLC men's soccer team smartly escaped the valley heat on Tuesday afternoon as they traveled to the Bay Area to take on Chabot College (Hayward) in a non-conference match, and came home with a 1-0 victory.  Unlike their opening game when they fell behind early, the Falcons started strong against the Gladiators with five shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of play.  Though none of the shots found the net, the team's confidence was building.  The match remained a scoreless tie well into the second half as both teams battled for chances to score.  Finally in the 65th minute, FLC sophomore forward Santiago Peniche drove through the Chabot defense and into the box where he was fouled, resulting in a penalty kick.  Sophomore Austyn Ciampa calmly knocked the PK into the net for the only goal of the match and a victory for the Falcons, their first of the young season.  Now sporting a 1-0-1 record, the Falcons will travel to Aptos to take on Cabrillo College on Friday (Sept 1) evening at 6:30 pm.
