Renewed rivalries and local bragging rights were on the table for Wednesday night's first-ever men's soccer showdown between American River and Folsom Lake Colleges. The Beavers stormed to an early 1-0 lead in just the 6th minute of play, using an attacking offense and some crisp passing. The Falcons tied the score with a goal of their own just 10 minutes later when Jose Muñoz found Miguel Medina in front of the goal for his fifth goal of the season. The offensive surge continued one minute later when American River found the net once again for a 2-1 lead. The two teams then traded attacks for the remaining 70+ minutes with neither able to break through. Both teams had several near-misses and great stops by the goalkeepers, but after 90 minutes it was still 2-1 in favor of the Beavers. The Falcons dropped to 3-2-2 overall and are 0-1 in Big 8 Conference play. They will travel to Stockton on Friday to take on Delta College in a 2:00 pm match before returning home next Tuesday.
