Men's Soccer Suffers Close Loss In Opener at Monterey

With three near-miss shots on goal in the first ten minutes, the Falcon men looked like they were headed to a victory.  But in spite of their dominance in ball possession (65%-35%) throughout the game, they could not find the back of the net.

A costly mistake on a defensive pass in the 43rd minute led to an own-goal deflection and a 1-0 lead for Monterey.  That unlucky goal turned out to be the only goal of the game.  "We definitely dominated the game," commented head coach Martin Roberts.  "Not just in time of possession, but in being the aggressors."  Roberts noted the stingy defense played by left defender Alex Piatak (A.P.) as one of the highlights.  "He was assigned to Monterey's best player, and he successfully shut him down."  Also noted for outstanding performances were forward Tyler Scott and center back Logan Guler

The men will hope to change their luck tonight when they play Delta College of Stockton at 6 pm on the Falcons' home field.  "My hope is that we got rid of our nerves on Friday and we're ready to show the home crowd how we can play," noted Roberts.
