Golfers clinch Big 8 title!

The Folsom Lake College men's golf team is the Big 8 Conference champion for the third year in a row, it was determined after Monday's Big 8 Tournament #12 at Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis.  The Falcons finished an uncharacteristic third place on Monday, just five strokes behind winner Sierra and three strokes back of surprising Delta.  The eight points earned for that third place finish, however, were enough to mathematically clinch the Big 8 title as they now have a 24-point lead over Sierra with just two tournaments remaining.  The Falcons were riding a 10-match winning streak prior to Monday's tournament, so the results were a 'good news/bad news' scenario for coach Barry Zarecky.

"I'm disappointed we took third today," remarked Zarecky, "but very pleased to be able to clinch our third consecutive Big 8 championship."  With all six teams posting scores under 400 – a first in Big 8 golf history – the Falcons shot 387 on the tame Wildhorse layout.  Once again, Max Menconi – the team's most consistent golfer all season – led the Falcons with a 74, followed by Brandon Kelly with 76.
