Golfers win 4th straight tournament, extend Big 8 lead
The Falcons just keep on winning. On Wednesday afternoon, the FLC men's golf team won their fourth consecutive tournament, this time in Big 8 tournament #5 at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa with a team score of 395. The Falcons shot a team score of 395, ten strokes ahead of runner-up American River. Brandon Kelly shot 74 to earn second-low medalist for the tournament, and steady Max Menconi recorded yet another round of 77. The Falcons stretched their Big 8 lead to 12 points over Sierra and currently enjoy their largest lead ever this early in a season. With nine tournaments yet to play, anything can happen, but as head coach Barry Zarecky noted, "I'd rather be 12 points ahead than 12 behind." The Falcons will play two tournaments next week – at Windsor in Santa Rosa and Whitney Oaks in Rocklin - before the mid-season two week break.
