Golfers stumble to 2nd place finish in Big 8 tournament #1
After their dominating performance in Monday's preview (practice) match, the Falcons fell to earth with a thud in Wednesday's Big 8 Tournament #1 at Whitney Oaks in Rocklin, finishing in second place, six strokes behind host Sierra College. "We literally beat ourselves," lamented head coach Barry Zarecky. And he was right on target; the Falcons incurred 49 penalty strokes (water hazards, out-of-bounds, etc…) over 18 holes of golf. Considering they lost by just six strokes, they really did give this one away. The lone bright spot for the Falcons came from Max Menconi, who shot a 43 on the front nine, then carded a par 36 on the back for the Falcons' only sub-80 round of the day.
