Falcons defend the home court with solid win over CRC

Folsom Lake men's basketball coach Bill Benford smiled and breathed a huge sigh of relief; his Falcons had just defeated Cosumnes River 87-76 at Falcon Gym on Thursday night for their first win in over a month.  The Falcons put together their most complete game of the season to earn their first Big 8 Conference win of 2020.  After trailing the Hawks 11-4 early, the Falcons went on a 13-0 run and never relinquished the lead.  The Hawks got as close a 6 points in the second half but could get no closer against a Falcon defense that stepped up when it was needed most.  Sophomore jeremy Dexter had the task of guarding CRC's leading scorer - Adam Orr at 19.5 points per game - and held him to just 9 points.  Meanwhile, Falcon freshman Pierce Rexford and sophomore Clayton Davis were having a 3-point contest to the benefit of their team; Rexford made 4-of-5 on his way to 24 points while Davis hit 5-of-8 for 21 points.  That's 69% shotting from 3-point range for those two.  With the long shots falling, it opened up the inside for easy Falcon baskets as well.

With the monkey off their back, the Falcons will go for two straight on Saturday when they travel to Modesto (7-10 overall, 3-2 in Big 8) for a 3:00 pm game.
