Falcons roll to 8-0 win

A weekend two-game series against visiting Gavilan College presented an opportunity for the Falcons to continue their season-opening winning streak, which stood at five games prior to Friday.  The Falcons added two more to that streak with a lopsided 8-0 win on Friday night, then miraculously won 12-11 on Saturday afternoon after staring at a six-run deficit in the seventh inning.  In Friday night's opener, sophomore lefty Trevor Johnson earned the win with five innings of 2-hit, shutout ball.  The trio of Anthony Perez, Evan Davis, and Brian Mueller kept the shutout intact with four innings of flawless relief.  The offense was paced by catcher Alex Schroeder, who had a triple and hit his third home run of the season.  Schroeder is currently hitting .586 (17 for 29) and has a ridiculous OPS of 1.785.  First baseman Troy Shields also homered, his second of the year, and drove in three runs.  Freshman third baseman Trey Furrey added three hits and is now batting .538.
