Falcons can't hold lead, fall to Vikings

The FLC baseball team lost their 12th consecutive game on Saturday afternoon, a disappointing 10-6 loss to Diablo Valley at Falcon Field.  The Falcons led until the 8th inning, when two bases-loaded walks and a grand slam propelled the Vikings to a six-run inning and a 10-5 lead.  The Falcons responded with an Anthony Mislinski solo home run in the ninth, but it was a case of too little, too late.  Alex Schroeder's team-leading ninth home run of the season, a three-run bomb in the third inning, gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead.  The 3 RBI gave Schroeder 29 for the season, also tops on the team.  The Falcons carried a 5-4 lead into the seventh, when a Viking walk, stolen base, and single produced a 5-5 tie.  In the fateful eighth, the Vikings started with a leadoff walk, but the Falcons looked like they might escape without any damage after getting two outs.  Three walks later (one intentional), the Vikings had a 6-5 lead.  The ensuing grand slam broke open a tight game, making it 10-5, with all the runs scoring with two outs.

The Falcons will hope to shake off the disheartening loss before they face Sacramento City College for their final series of the season, starting Tuesday at Sac City.  All three games will be played under the lights, starting at 6:00 pm.
