Bear Cubs edge Falcons in long-awaited Falcon Field opener

After 23 consecutive road games to start the 2019 season, the Falcons finally played at "the Lake" on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to last week's heroic efforts of FLC groundskeeper Darren Jibben.  The Falcons put on a good show battling Santa Rosa for nine innings, but came up one run short as they lost to the Bear Cubs, 6-5.  After spotting the Bear Cubs a run in the first inning, the two teams traded two-run home runs (and the lead) three times.  Falcon designated hitter Braeden Holliday was the first to go yard as he gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the second inning.  Santa Rosa's Logan Douglas responded with a two-run homer of his own with two outs in the third to put the Cubs ahead 3-2.   In the bottom of the third, Falcon catcher Alex Schroeder got in on the fun and put the Falcons back on top, 4-3 with another two-run bomb.  Center fielder Jake Gross made it 5-3 with his RBI single in the fourth, but the Falcons would not score again.  Meanwhile, the Bear Cubs tied it up with a two-run single in the fifth and added the go-ahead run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.  The Bear Cub bullpen shut down the Falcons over the final five innings to seal the win for Santa Rosa. 

These same two teams will play at 2:30 on Thursday in Santa Rosa and again on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
