Falcon pitching takes a beating at Modesto

The Falcon baseball team opened their three game series in Modesto on Tuesday afternoon with an 11-3 loss, their fourth straight in Big 8 Conference play.  The Falcons' usually strong pitching staff - the strength of this team all through February - gave up 11 runs for the third time in the last four games.  Falcon starter Andrew Vaughn, who was stellar through his first five starts with a 2.08 ERA, had his second straight poor outing, lasting just 3 2/3 innings while allowing six earned runs and issuing seven walks.  The bullpen didn't help Vaughn either, as three inherited runners scored in the fourth inning.  By the time the dust settled, the Pirates had an insurmountable 8-2 lead.  Offensively the Falcons picked up nine hits, but all were singles except for Isaiah Lissade's third inning leadoff triple.  The falcons also struck out 12 times.

Game two of the Modesto series will be played at 2:30 on Thursday at Modesto, with the Falcons as the home team.
