Falcons take two at American River

Playing their 16th and 17th consecutive road games of the 2019 season, the Falcons swept two from American River at Beaver Stadium on Friday afternoon, winning 16-8 in the opener (a makeup of the rainout from Tuesday) and 4-3 in the late game.  In the opener, the Falcons racked up 10 runs (6 earned) off 10 hits in the first four innings to build a 10-1 lead.  Starter Trevor Johnson held the Beavers in check, allowing just two hits in his five innings, but also issued 8 walks to help the Beavers score three runs.  Right fielder Andrew Williams knocked in three runs with three hits - including a double - to pace the Falcon offense.  Shortstop Isaiah Lissade had two hits and scored three runs, and designated hitter James Powers had two hits and two RBI.

In game two, the Falcons jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Beaver error, but saw that lead disappear when the Beavers responded with three runs in their half of the first thanks to two Falcon errors, a wild pitch, and a passed ball.  The two teams settled down after the first inning until the Falcons parlayed three hits, a hit batter, and a walk into three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.  With relievers Zack Jedlowski and Tyler Cochran shutting out the Beavers on no hits over the final six innings, that would be all the runs the Falcons would need to get the win.

With the win(s), the Falcons improved to 2-1 in Big 8 play and will face Cosumnes River in three games this week, all at CRC.
