Falcon road warriors win in Ukiah

Playing their 11th game of the season -all on the road - the Falcons earned their 7th victory on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Mendocino in Ukiah.  Sophomore lefty Andrew Vaughn earned his 4th win of the season against no losses with six innings of 3-hit pitching while lowering his earned run average to a sparkling 0.82.  In his four starts, vaughn has allowed just 2 runs in 22 innings while holding opponents' batting average to .143.   Meanwhile, the Falcons' offense managed to manufacture two runs, despite getting a total of just four hits in the game.  In the sixth, an Alex Schroeder single, a wild pitch, and a fielding error gave the Falcons their first run on just one hit.  In the seventh, they scored without getting a hit when Jake Gross walked, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a sac fly to right by James Powers

The Falcons will play four road games this week as they try to make up for rained-out games from the past two weeks.  Hopefully, Falcon Field will be dry enough to finally play on when Big 8 Conference play begins next Tuesday Feb 26 against American River.
