Falcons take twinbill opener over Marin

After an opening weekend series win at Butte, the Falcon baseball team was ready to host a two-game set against College of Marin on Friday and Saturday.  But with an outfield that currently looks more like the Everglades, the Falcons were forced to find an alternative site to play the Mariners.  They eventually secured the baseball field at Ohlone College in Fremont, partially because their synthetic turf field can allow teams to play under wet conditions.  As it turns out, those conditions were ever-present on Friday afternoon as the Falcons won both ends of their doubleheader over Marin in a moderate rainstorm, 6-1 and 8-3.

In the opener, the Falcons  scored three early runs in support of lefty starter Andrew Vaughn, who responded with five innings of 2-hit ball while allowing just one unearned run.  Sophomore Tyler Cochran  came on in the seventh and threw three innings of 1-hit shutout ball to earn the save.  The offense was led by leftfielder Braeden Holliday, who had a home run and three RBI, while shortstop Isaiah Lissade had 3 hits, including a double.
