Falcons close regular season with loss at Sac City

The FLC baseball team closed out their regular season schedule on Friday night with 5-3 loss at Sacramento City College, finishing the season in fifth place in the tough Big 8 Conference at 10-14 (25-15 overall).   Despite being held to just two hits, the Falcons led after three innings, 3-0.  Following a hit batter, right fielder Aidan Malm's two-run first inning home run – his 10th of the season – put the Falcons ahead 2-0.  They added a run in the third on a walk, a hit batter, and an RBI single by Josh Winkler, which turned out to be the last hit they'd get all night.  The Panthers put together a fourth-inning rally with three hits and aided by two Falcon errors that tied the game at 3-3.  They added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to account for the final differential.  Falcon starter Shane Gustafson was again sharp but was the victim of fielding errors, as he gave up just one earned run.

Despite their 6-game losing streak to finish the season, the Falcons learned on Sunday they are seeded tenth in the CCCAA NorCal regional playoffs and will play a best two-out-of-three series at seventh-seed Fresno City College beginning on Friday (May 4).
