Baseball falls to Sac City in slugfest

The final 2018 home game for the FLC baseball team turned into a crazy batting exhibition on Thursday night as the Falcons fell to Sac City, 23-14 at Falcon Field.  Balls were carrying like never before, as witnessed by the combined seven home runs hit in the first five innings – including two grand slams by Sac City's Kevin Saenz – and only returned to normal after the cool air settled in later in the evening.  By then, both teams had used a plethora of pitchers and were running out of arms.  A total of 432 pitches were thrown, resulting in 30 hits (7 home runs and 7 doubles), 18 walks, 5 hit batters, and 8 fielding errors.  In all, 11 pitchers were used in the 4-hour, 23 minute marathon.  Offensive standouts for the Falcons included Anthony Mislinski, who was 4-for-5 with two homers, a double, and a single while driving in seven runs, and Nate George, who had two doubles.  Centerfielder John Mook was 2-for-3 with two walks as he climbed to second in the state with a .442 batting average. 

Despite their current five-game losing streak, the Falcons' overall record of 25-14 will likely qualify the team for the CCCAA playoffs, which would begin next Friday (May 4).  Post-conference pairings will be announced following Sunday's NorCal seeding meeting.
