Baseball escapes the rain, but loses at Fresno

With their baseball field looking more like a lake than a diamond, the Falcons found dry ground in Fresno Wednesday afternoon but ended up on the wrong end of a 10-7 score.  Once again, the Falcons' offense provided plenty of punch, but the pitching put the team in an early hole.  Fresno scored four runs off Falcon starter Dustin Jack in the first inning, then tacked on two more in the third off Lukas Bolen.  The Falcons responded with four runs in the top half of the fourth inning, punctuated by centerfielder Aiden Malm's double that drove in two.  But Fresno padded their lead as the Rams added four more runs between the sixth and eighth innings.  Falcon rightfielder Carson McCusker made things interesting with his 2-run homer in the top of the ninth, but the Falcons would get no closer than 10-7.  McCusker padded his already ridiculous stat page with four hits, including his state-leading fourth home run and (also state-leading) fifth double.  The freshman is currently hitting .464 with 12 RBI and slugging 1.071.

With the rain falling all day Thursday, the Falcons' Friday night game against Gavilan has been pushed back to Saturday with hopes of a drier field.  Saturday's doubleheader game times are 11:00 am and 2:30 pm.
