Baseball Takes One Of Three On The Road In LA

The Falcons' road trip to Los Angeles was characterized by missed opportunities, as they managed to win just one game out of the three game series at L.A. Valley College.  In Friday's opener, the Monarchs scored two runs in the seventh inning on Falcon wild pitches, which turned out to be the difference as LA Valley won 5-4.  In Saturday's early game, the Falcons wasted a brilliant pitching effort by sophomore righty Andrew Schantz as they lost 2-0.  Schantz gave up two runs on just three hits (all in the first two innings) over eight innings of work.  Unfortunately, the Monarchs' pitching was just as stingy as the Falcons could only muster three hits of their own.  In the finale on Saturday afternoon, the Falcons took an early 2-0 lead on Tyler Kaim's sacrifice fly and Nick Schumacher's second home run of the season.  The lead would vanish by the third inning, but the Falcon bullpen allowed just one Monarch run over the final five innings while the offense chipped away with one run in the 5th, two in the 6th, and one more in the 8th.  The 7-5 win was FLC's fifth of the season against seven losses and concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule.  The Falcons will open Bay Valley Conference play on Tuesday with a 2:00 pm home game against Los Medanos at Falcon Field.
