Baseball Falls to Butte

The FLC baseball team played at Butte College in Oroville on Sunday afternoon in a makeup of their rained-out game from last Thursday.  This time, the Falcons committed four errors and hit three batters as they stumbled to a 12-7 loss to the Roadrunners.  Despite the fielding and pitching troubles, the Falcons collected 14 hits (against Butte's 8), including a 4-hit day for right fielder Tyler Kaim.  Kaim hit the Falcons' first homer of the year, a solo shot to left field leading off the ninth inning, to go along with a double and two singles.  Had it not been for a disastrous fourth inning, the Falcons might still be undefeated.  In the 4th, FLC pitchers hit three batters and threw two wild pitches to go along with two dropped fly balls,  all of which led to a six-run inning (on just 2 Butte hits) for the Roadrunners.  The Falcons did manage to score five runs over the final three innings to make things interesting.  FLC sophomore Craig Stafford pitched two solid innings in relief, shutting out the Roadrunners on no hits while striking out three.  Freshman third baseman Reid Ramirez had two singles and 2 RBI, while catcher Mason Allen had two hits and scored twice.
