Falcons Baseball Wins Inaugural Game!

Falcons Baseball Wins Inaugural Game!

The inaugural Falcon baseball team used some solid pitching, some timely hits, and a key walk to overcome a feisty Shasta College squad 5-4.  FLC righthander Will Felton kept the Knights in check, allowing just one unearned run through five innings and leaving with a 3-1 lead.  The Falcons entered the ninth leading 4-2, but gave up two runs with two outs to let Shasta back into the game.  In the bottom half of the ninth, right fielder Tyler Kaim and first baseman Noah Revis-French led off with back-to-back singles to put runners at 1st and 3rd.  Shasta elected to intentionally walk shortstop Grant Heisinger, loading the bases to set up a force out or double play.  Pinch hitter Andrew Schantz was retired on an infield popup for the first out.  Next up was leftfielder Blake Rivera, who had hit FLC's first-ever home run back in the second inning.  Rivera worked the count full before taking ball four for the walk-off win.

Rivera (home run, double, 2 RBI's), French (triple, single, 1 RBI),  DH Nick Schumacher (2 hits, 1 RBI), and 2nd baseman Austin Wailes (3 hits) were the offensive stars for the Falcons, while Felton's pitching line (5 innings, 0 earned runs, 4 hits) kept the team in the game.

"Well, it wasn't exactly how we drew it up," commented coach Matt Wright, referring to the 2 runs allowed in the top of the ninth. "But we'll sure take the win."

Congratulations to the FLC baseball team on their FIRST WIN!

The baseball team will play at Butte College (Chico) on Friday, then return to Falcon Field for a Saturday night game under the lights against Butte at 5:00 pm.
